Het beeldenhuis

Non-profit organization Leopold Van Esbroeck (Pol) (1911-2010)-Mariëtte Coppens (1931-2021), alias HET BEELDENHUIS

HET BEELDENHUIS honors the heritage of their parents and organizes (socio)cultural, etnical and ethnical initiatives such as exhibitions, debates, concerts, workshops, guided tours, lectures and publishes books around “the values” of Pol and Mariëtte.

Mariëtte’s values are among others liberal humanism, the relation “Mother and Child”, “Connecting Hands”, the remembrance of the horror of the Second World War and the right of a mother to be able to raise her child appropriately, as stated in the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations.

The value of Leopold Van Esbroeck - faithful to his classical training and the importance of a thorough technical education - is the ode to the beauty of "the human figure" and nature.

Together with her older sister Mieke, Diana is the driving force behind the non-profit organization “vzw Leopold Van Esbroeck-Mariëtte Coppens”.

Mariette Coppens - Het oeuvre

On the occasion of Diana's mother’s 90th birthday on June 13, 2021, a solemn inauguration of the bronze bust made by Mariëtte of Anne Frank took place in the Jewish Cemetery in Oisterwijk, the Netherlands. Earlier this bust was on display in the garden of the famous Achterhuis – where Anne lived and wrote her diary – in Amsterdam. Anne Frank is a symbol of human injustice and the right to freedom, equality and humanity and a reminder of the horrors of the Holocaust, but also of other genocides past and present. Anne symbolizes the danger of anti-semetism and any form of race or other hatred. the outrage against any form of extremism, no matter how it is expressed. global themes such as peace, a healthy environment and the right. All of these were inspirational for Mariëtte Coppens.

Diana is presently working on a project around a scetch that her mother made prior to the creation of the bust of Anne Frank. In honor of her mother, Diana is preparing an exhibition based on her mother’s work in combination with the branches of the chestnut tree that Anne describes in her diary. Via the non-profit organization, HET BEELDENHUIS got the hold of five original branches.

Probably the most unique sculpture ever made by Leopold Van Esbroeck, is the linden tree in Zoersel. This 900 year old tree used to grow in the middle of the village, close to the church. In 1974 the tree died and was taken down. Pol Van Esbroeck proposed to sculpt the tree and Mariëtte sculpted the branches. The result? Amazing and unique sculptures situated in a contemporary setting with temporary exhibitions. In 2022 the world famous Duo Landini https://www.duolandini.be/ honored the Lindepaviljoen with a unique concert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=3Kvx_DfawnQ In 2024 HET BEELDENHUIS organized a musical event “Marc Hauman & Bert Van Reeth sing Dirk Van Esbroeck” as a tribute to Pol Van Esbroeck.
